How to create a new port

The port number is a user assigned number that will be attached to the given port for internal purposes. This number must be unique for each port.  Start by assigning a number that has not been used yet; type its name in the port name field and the name of the country where the port is located.

The port code and country code fields should be filled in from the appropriate U.S. Customs tables. These fields are very important for the Customs Automated Manifest System In the abbreviation field type the short name for the port being created, in many cases this abbreviation is used in the generation of bills of lading numbers.

Enter the default weight and measure units to be associated with this port.  If the ratings for this port are to be the same as those of a port that has already been defined, you can enter the number for that port next to the rate as field. If this is not the case, enter the same port number as the one being entered, which means that you have to enter the rating defaults for this new port.  The thru port number would be the number of the actual load port for the port you are creating.  I.E.  If you are creating ‘B/L’ port such as Orlando, Fl, but the cargo will actually be loading the vessel in Tampa, then enter the port number for Tampa.  This concept allows for the Orlando statistics to be reported when asking for port of load Tampa.  It also is used in the posting of B/L’s by batch and by selecting port of load Tampa and including thru ports ‘Y’, the Orlando B/L’s will also be posted.  Enter the thru port number for the port you are creating, or if not a ‘thru port’ enter the same number as the port you are creating.  The default currency in the system is the US dollar. It is not necessary to assign the two other fields Rate one and Rate two.

Fields such as B/L code, AMS port, ISIS port, are fields that usually need to be reviewed by the GDZ-ISIS support group, so it is a good idea to always contact us to review the setup, especially if the port is a port of call. ISIS port is a key field when equipment is tracked in a port. It needs to be set to YES if TIR’s are created form a yard in this port

Next, enter ‘Y’ if you want the items that are associated with this port to be translated to another language (such items could be B/L item descriptions, indications, or others). Enter ‘N’ otherwise.

For ports of call, a line has to be assigned, through the line port master
