US Customs Automated Manifest System- AMS

The Automated Manifest System is used to communicate with the United States Customs for cargo releases of cargo coming into the US. It is a complete package, which allows communication back and forth. Users send their bills of lading, and customs replies updating the information to know the current status of the cargo\containers. There are some processes that are run in between that allow this communication. Therefore you will see in the AMS screen a section in red in the upper-right corner that shows the date and time of the last poll.

The Bills of Lading have to meet some standard requirements, such as

  1. Shippers, Forwarders, Consignees and Notifies  need to show accurate addresses
  2. Cargo description has to have specifics about quantity and measurements
  3. If cargo going to a final destination different than the port of discharge then In-bond information is required

The program shows current status of selected vessel\voyage. ISIS identifies voyages\jobs coming into the US with the 01 branch of the job. The information that is shown is determined by the selection of job and ports. It shows quantities of Bills per port combination. This section is called Vessel Status

Users can get more detailed information about the status of the bills of lading by going into the B/L dispositions Tab

There is a section for problem B/L’s. As its name says, it shows the list of bills of lading that have a conflict, and the cargo is on Hold, partially released or over released. It has an option to print a report for these cases. As in the other sections, you will be able to see all Customs responses as the documents are highlighted

The other Tabs correspond to General Orders and In-Bond B/L’s. In every section, as the bill of lading is highlighted, the customs replies will appear in the bottom section

To specifically keep track of the status of the container, this module has a section called AMS Equipment holds, which shows the list of containers that have been placed on hold, and specific information about it.

ISIS has incorporated in the Customs AMS module the ISF or Imports Security Filing, which will be effective by the end of January 2010
